Plumbing Inspector (Part-Time)
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Building Commissioner, this part-time position inspects the
installation, alteration, extension, repair, and maintenance of the plumbing system and to ensure
compliance with the Illinois Plumbing Code and with proper plumbing practices to prevent the
introduction of pathogenic organisms into the water supply.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Reviews blueprints and plans for plumbing installation, alteration, extension, repair and
maintenance of the plumbing system; ensures compliance with applicable codes and regulation.
Performs field inspections of water, sewer, and gas piping, heating and building systems;
identifies problems and violation; communicates findings to contractors, property owners and
others; issues citations for violations and follows up to ensure compliance.
Performs property maintenance, building and mechanical inspections as necessary.
Assists customers and the public at the front counter.
Responds to plumbing code and other construction questions.
Writes violation notices to homeowners, contractors, etc. for violations of codes or regulations,
appears in Court to testify on unresolved violations when necessary.
Responds to inquiries and provides technical assistance to residents, architects, engineers,
contractors, designers, and plumbers regarding plans, on-site findings, methods, and practices
and compliance; provides technical assistance to customers and other department staff.
Organizes own work, sets priorities and meets critical deadlines; ensures that such deadlines
are met by other staff.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in
a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent. Must possess a valid Illinois
driver's license. Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed plumber in the State of
Illinois, be currently licensed by the State of Illinois as a Plumber and certified by the State as a
Plumber Inspector, along with continuing education for both. Principles, practices codes and
regulations related to Property Maintenance is a must along with concepts, material and terminology
related to building construction and applicable codes and regulations.
This is a permanent, part-time position working approximately 19 hours per week. The pay range for
this position is $36.13/hr to $50.59/hr depending on qualifications. Interested candidates should
